KYLE Rowley scored a late winner as Redditch beat league leaders Kettering Town 3-2 to end their nine-game winless run.

Captain Rowley headed in the winner 10 minutes from time after Johnny Johnston struck either side of half time at the Valley Stadium.

The result means Redditch sit 12th in the Southern League Premier Central table.

United broke the deadlock one minute before the break as Johnston collected the ball inside the Kettering half before bursting down the left, cutting into the box and curling a low shot into the bottom right corner.

However, Kettering drew level three minutes after the interval as Devon Kelly-Evans exchanged passes with Tyree Wilson and saw his deflected shot find the net.

And the visitors completed the turnaround just one minute later when Callum Powell picked out Isiah Noel-Williams in the box who poked a shot past Ollie Taylor.

The Reds responded on 53 minutes as Kettering goalkeeper Dan Jezeph failed to claim a cross in from the right and Johnston poked the loose ball into an empty net.

And United reclaimed the lead on 80 minutes when Rowley headed in Jack Kelly’s corner from the right at the back post from close range.

Taylor made a superb save to deny substitute Terell Pennant late on before Ryan Inman made a superb block to prevent the follow-up from finding the net.

Reds keeper Taylor made another excellent stop to keep out Noel-Williams’ effort soon after and then stayed tall to deny Pennant from close range.

Redditch are next in action against Leamington in the Birmingham Senior Cup on Monday, January 20 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Valley Stadium.
