DEFENDING champions Engineers closed in on current league leaders Lodge Farmers with a maximum points victory against Nomads.
Engineers took an 18-pin lead after winning the first two legs and won the third leg to stretch their lead to 24 pins.
And the victors comfortably won leg four before taking the fifth and final leg despite a strong score from Nomads.
For Engineers, Joe Kelso (44, 14 stack), Andy Clewlow (42, 15 stack) and Maurice Wroe (36) top scored while James Marshal (35), Dave Maule (32) and Graham Hanley and Mac Eaton (both 30) impressed for Nomads.
Elsewhere, league leaders Lodge Farmers suffered just their second defeat of the season against Bernie’s Bolts.
The two teams split the first four legs between them, winning two apiece, as Lodge Farmers led by a single pin heading into the last leg.
And the Bolts made 78 pins as Dean Lowe and John McSweeney made stacks of 13 and 11 respectively.
Farmers needed to match the score to win the game but were unable to knock down the required pins and finished 18 pins adrift.
For the Bolts, Lowe (42), Andy Gill-Smith (40, 13 stack) and Paul Blayney (39, 11 stack) top scored while Alan Rumble (38, 11 stack), Frank Morris (34) and Lynne Pemberton (33) impressed for Lodge Farmers.
Lastly, Jumbo Jet Set claimed victory against bottom side C and G Show.
Jumbo Jets scored an impressive 73 pins in the first leg and took both the second and third legs to take an unassailable 39-pin lead.
C and G Show fought back in the final two legs to claim a couple of consolation points.
For Jumbo Jets, Dennis Compton (38), Liz Rowberry and Len Quartly (both 33) top scored while Angela Guest and Rich Fisher (both 35) and Keith Edwards and Jay Attwaters (both 31) impressed for C and G Show.
