TANWORTH and Camp Hill finished their league campaign with a 45-run victory against Exhall and Wixford.

Oscar Newell starred with bat and ball as he just missed out on reaching a century and then took four wickets at Tanworth Lane.

The result means Tanworth and Camp Hill finish the Cotswold Hills League Premier Division season as runners-up behind champions Shipston-on-Stour.

Tanworth won the toss and elected to bat but lost opener Jake Wright (4) to the third ball of the match as William Green (4-26) claimed an early scalp.

And the home side then saw Martin Perfect (8) trapped LBW by Thomas Simpson (1-27) which brought Newell to the crease.

Newell (98) and captain Andy Turnbull (27) took TACH to 55 before the latter tamely chipped the ball back to Oliver Richardson (1-19).

However, Newell continued to score runs regularly and enjoyed a 66-run partnership with overseas star Ben Bryant (19) who played his final game for TACH before returning to Australia.

After Bryant fell to the bowling of Rich Layton (2-43) the latter quickly accounted for Euan Newell (3).

O Newell remained at the crease and dominated a 54-run partnership with Jamie Plant (11 not out) to bring up his first half-century of the season.

A series of boundaries took O Newell to within touching distance of a century only for Green to strike with the former two runs shy of a ton.

Nick Sale (8) and James Protherough (0) fell in quick succession at the end of the innings as TACH closed on 205-8 from their 45 overs.

And O Newell continued to dominate with the ball as he picked up the first three wickets of the Exhall reply.

He pinned Julian Morris (9) LBW before removing Richardson (0) for a duck and Exhall opener Sam Smith (4) to put TACH in command.

And O Newell also accounted for Green (26) after the latter survived two dropped chances earlier in the innings.

Exhall’s middle order provided some much-needed resistance as Simpson (33) and Gabriel Thornton (24) scored useful runs only for both to fall to TACH debutant Ben Johnson (3-16).

Johnson also claimed the wicket of Martin Pack (0) for a duck although Exhall’s tail order rallied as Rob Perry (23), Chris Harris (15) and Layton (13) all managed double figures.

Bryant (1-31), Protherough (1-14) and Plant (1-8) picked up a wicket apiece to bowl Exhall out for 160 and secure the runners-up spot ahead of long-time leaders Bretforton
