TIM Flowers admits Alvechurch must start ‘putting teams to the sword’ following a goalless draw away at Banbury United.
Church squandered a number of chances with the visitors forced to settle for a point at the Spencer Stadium.
The result means Alvechurch sit 12th in the Southern League Premier Central table.
And despite failing to secure the points, Flowers praised the commitment and desire from his side.
Flowers said: “It was really hard fought, it wasn’t a great surface to play on, it was like a five-versus-five basketball match early doors, I didn’t like it.
“We matched them up and got a foothold in the game. We’re guilty of missing umpteen chances, to call some of them gilt-edged is doing us a favour.
“We’ve got to be putting people to the sword when you’re getting those kind of chances, we could be here until midnight and we wouldn’t score.
“It’s another clean sheet, it’s another point on the road, the work rate and effort was fantastic but we’ve got to score our chances.
“There’s no shortage of effort, commitment and desire, the lads are giving it their all for the football club.
“We didn’t get the ball across the white line and that is what counts.”
Church goalkeeper Ronnie Hollingshead made an early save with his legs to keep the scores level.
And Dan Sweeney then had the ball in the net for the visitors only for the assistant referee to raise his flag for offside.
However, Church came within a whisker of taking the lead shortly before half time when Bradley Stretton’s header came back off the crossbar from Ammar Dyer’s cross.
And the visitors hit the woodwork again moments later as Joe Willis struck the crossbar directly from a corner.
Shortly after half time, Hollingshead made another crucial save to keep Banbury at bay.
At the other end, Willis somehow headed wide from six-yards out after good work from Dyer.
And Dyer then beat four or five challenges before seeing his shot smothered from a promising position in the box.
The game ended on a sour note for Church with Dyer sent off after picking up a second yellow card two minutes from time.
Alvechurch are next in action against Bromsgrove Sporting on Saturday, February 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Lye Meadow.
